Inaugural Yarnbury Yorkshire Day Beer Festival 30th July - 1st August 2010.

After months of extensive planning the doors opened for the inaugural Yarnbury Yorkshire Day Beer Festival at 4pm on Friday the 30th of July 2010. With over 40 ales and ciders gathered from the length and breadth of the white rose county for the discerning drinkers of Horsforth to sample, the much anticipated weekend started with a great air of expectation.

The merry band of volunteer staff looked in fine fettle kitted out in their commemorative festival T-shirts not to mention the broad grins that they were all sporting and continued to do so for the remainder of the evening and indeed the entire weekend.
Friday night’s entertainment was supplied by the popular local group “motor city burning”. The band put on an excellent show from the temporary covered stage in the corner of the car park. Light showers didn’t damped the spirits as revellers enjoyed the bands exemplary performance under the shelter provided by the clubs newly acquired marquee which spanned the entire width of the car park. The beer flowed late into the night and the barbecue cooking a range of burgers and sausages made freshly by local butchers especially for the occasion gave much needed sustenance to those with the stamina to see out the evening to its finale.

After a successful opening night the organising team had worked tirelessly to ensure the venue was again looking at its spotless best as the first customers arrived as the doors were opened at noon on Saturday. A sizeable crowd both young and old gathered throughout the day, made up of local drinkers and people that had travelled significant distances to attend all contributing to a warm and friendly atmosphere as people mingled, discussed their “ale of the festival” nominations and were entertained by a mixture of musical styles. Club member Mark Robinson performed an acoustic set followed by “Sunday Social” a local three piece fronted by ex Yarnbury 1st XV scrumhalf Jimmy Lee, who showcased nearly entirely their own original material to a very receptive audience, and soloist Paul Jeffery who was joined by Katie during his second set to perform as "The BitterSweet shop". With the weather holding out better than the previous day, the party spirit really took hold well into the evening.

With Sunday looking to host the best weather of the weekend, the staff eagerly took their posts to what hopefully would be another busy day. Unfortunately, it was the quietest day of the weekend, albeit with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The day's entertainment consisted of student band "Sans Cire" who performed their own unique style of music (also wholly origional) with influences in the jazz, reggae and afro-beat genres, and husband and wife duo "Peculiar Blue" playing a mix of covers and origional material. What a treat having two different styles, played fantasticaly by both acts.
With the festival drawing to a close on sunday evening we manage to look back over the weekend and assess how things went. We had plenty of good feedback from those that attended and have plenty of thoughts and ideas to move onto next years festival.

The festival was hailed as a success, and we managed to make some new friends, have plenty of fun, raise our clubs profile and earn some much needed funds to boot. Thank you to all those who attended.
